Ben Carson Grilled

Dr. Ben Carson is getting pilloried for his remarks about not going quietly when confronted by an armed maniac. Generally, the tone of the scornful comments range from incredulous to damning, as in "how dare he blame the victims for their victimization?"
The critics miss the point, which is that mass killers must be confronted and disrupted to the extent possible. By fighting back, even ordinary folks, like the passengers on board flight 93 on September 11th, can disrupt evil. Had they not fought back that awful day, far more innocent Americans would have died.
It is uncomfortable to contemplate the need for physical daring and reckless courage in everyday life. But these incidents are so draconian and extreme they demand the able-bodied to attempt something extraordinary. So Dr. Carson is right. Be a hero. It is better to die on your feet attempting to protect others than to die huddled among them, terrified and cooperating with a maniacal lunatic who has no shed of decency and is probably going to kill you anyway.

Just had Dr. Ben Carson live on the WABC radio show. Addressing his recent remarks about fighting back against armed gunmen, including the controversy generated by his comment that if Jews were armed in Germany in the 1930's and '40's there would not have been a Holocaust, the candidate for the Republican nomination said that the press was nit-picking his every remark. He also said that President Obama is a "real black man" and that media mogul Rupert Murdoch did not mean to suggest otherwise.
