First Snow

I saw my first snow of the season yesterday evening. We were driving up the State Thruway to suburban Suffern New York; the sun was shining on the trees turning brilliant autumn colors when a single cloud blew over us and starting sprinkling snowflakes, on October 18th, which makes me think this, is going to be a long, dark winter.
Erica, Sol and I were en route to a lovely event at the historic Lafayette Theater…the nation’s most prominent tailor 87 year old Martin Greenfield was publicizing his terrific new book, 'Measure of a Man: From Auschwitz Survivor to Presidents' Tailor' in which the Holocaust survivor tells the inspirational story of overcoming tremendous adversity, losing his entire family, coming to America penniless and going on to become tailor to men like presidents Dwight Eisenhower, Bill Clinton and Barack Obama and stars like Leonardo DiCaprio and Lebron James.
With the world going to hell in a hand basket, the book was one of those rare optimistic love notes to America the Promised Land for refugees and strivers willing to work hard and play fair.
