Gun Control Vs Terrorism

by Geraldo Rivera | Jun 17, 2016

The gun control vs terrorism debate is counter- productive and unintelligent. Is there really any fundamental difference between the massacre at the Pulse Orlando nightclub and the massacre almost exactly one year ago at the Mother Emanuel Church in Charleston South Carolina?

In Orlando the savage killer of innocents was a lifelong loser who said he was motivated by ISIS and/or homophobia who attacked a gay nightclub. In Charleston the savage killer of innocents was a lifelong loser who said he was motivated by race hatred who attacked an historic black church.

Both monsters used military-style assault weapons to inflict maximum damage on the maximum number people, victims who were far better human beings than the bloodthirsty maniacs stealing their lives could ever hope to be.

Both killers were terrorists. And hate-mongers. So was Adam Lanza and James Holmes and Timothy McVeigh and a dozen dozen other cold-blooded cowardly mass killers, Muslim, Christian and Jew.

Our rage should not be tempered or aggravated by the religion of the perpetrator. That is a detail to help establish motive and investigate broader consequences, such as the likelihood of copycats and a broader conspiracy. It is the foul deed that should offend and shock our civilized souls, regardless of the sick crap filling a particular killer's twisted mind.
