Trump on Obama's birthplace

by Geraldo Rivera | Sep 16, 2016

Donald Trump's handling of the birther controversy has been disastrous. The momentum that his campaign has been enjoying since Mexico evaporated instantly when he only reluctantly acknowledged that President Barack Obama was indeed a natural-born citizen of the United States.

Why he chose to play the birther issue so cute is a mystery. All he had to do today was to say you know something folks I had real questions about the birthplace of the president of the United States but I was wrong and I apologize. His clumsy handling of the controversy takes the focus off Hillary Clinton, her health and the other negative issues that have been damaging her campaign lately.

This misstep will show up in the polls almost instantly. Keep your eyes open because I think you'll see the negative impact by Monday.

In terms of the impact of Donald Trump's revelation or should I say reluctant admission that President Barack Obama was indeed born in the United States I don't think there will be much.

Non-college-educated white people were going to vote for Trump anyway. Black people were not going to vote for Trump anyway. The negative impact from Trump's point of view is that it totally wrecked the great roll that he has been on all this week.

Since 911 the focus has been on Hillary Clinton; weak frail Hillary Clinton lying about her health and so forth.

What Trump has done is give us a new headline: Bulletin Trump believes the world is round
